I’m waiting to post this week’s mp3 file til tomorrow so that in the meantime I can provide a well overdue update on my plans for the CDT.
The thing is that since my initial announcement, the reality of making this happen has hit me hard. Prepping for this is literally the biggest grind of my life. And the grind is only gonna get harder once I hit the trail. Some days, my first thought when I wake up is… how the fuck am I gonna pull this off…
So yeah, maybe not the update some of you wanting to join me on the trail were hoping to hear, but let me assure you, I’m making this happen no matter what it takes. My ticket to Tucson (plus the two hour bus ride to Lordsburg and the most expensive shuttle ticket of all time) has been bought so I’m set to start hiking Thursday, April 30.
I am getting closer to finalizing the rest of my schedule. Of course I will be operating under some flexibility since I can’t anticipate exactly how everything is going to go, but if you are someone who was hoping to nail down some dates, I would recommend reaching out to me soonish. Unless you’re hoping to join somewhere in Idaho or Montana which I probably can’t start planning for until I’m already on the trail.
I thought that my prep for this was going to seem more worth writing about, but the truth is that it’s pretty unglamourous. So far the past few weeks have consisted of staring at my bank account, falling asleep with my contacts in after working a 12 hour day, and mostly just wishing I was already on the trail.
One thing I am excited about is that I finally bought my “big 3”. Thanks to ultralight technology that may as well have cost me my soul - my backpack, tent, and sleeping bag together weigh less than 3 lbs!
Here is a video of me unboxing my tent and experiencing the weight of it all lol.
That’s all for now. Talk more soon.
